We’re collecting postcards to send to key stakeholders – commissioners, MPs, and other people with influence – telling them what families want for the futures of their relatives with learning disabilities and what services need to do to help them make it happen.
If there’s someone you think needs to get the message let us know at email@example.com.
Three years ago BBC Panorama exposed horrific abuse of people with learning disabilities at Winterbourne View assessment and treatment unit.
In response the Government put an action plan in place, committing to a timetable to ensure the 3,250 children and adults in assessment and treatment units like Winterbourne were supported to move back to their local communities by 1st June 2014.
There has been an appalling failure to meet this deadline. Not only has there been no progress but recent NHS figures published in May show that many more people with a learning disability are going into units then are leaving them.
There are no more excuses. We will not stand back and let another Winterbourne View happen.
Alongside learning disability charity Mencap we have published a new report – Winterbourne View: The Scandal Continues and launched a petition calling on Prime Minister David Cameron to fulfil the promise made to get the right support, in the right place, for each and every person with a learning disability.
